Deep Fried Recap: Marrekesh Vegetable Curry

Monday, April 30th, 2007 | tuesday night dinner | No Comments

The recipe calls for an imaginary use of “carrot-ginger juice” and baking in the oven. A hell of a lot of ingredients, and maybe a dutch oven (but you can do without)

Look it up on All Recipes.com, under Marrakesh Vegetable Curry. There is too much to type.

Even though the description lies to you, the curry is quite good. It has a sweet, not too spicy flavor and lots of different textures for you to feel in your mouth. The dish is also colorful and will stain your sink and maybe your teeth (ee!) if you let it.

* 1 sweet potato, peeled and cubed

unemployment watch: day ?

i’m totally losing brain cells sitting around my apartment. i’ve been using MAMP as a php testing environment on my computer, and whilst trying to setup a MySQL database connection for my site, i kept getting all kinds of ‘could not connect to database’ errors. i sat here debugging it for a half hour before realizing that i had been typing the username as ‘host’ when it should have been ‘root’.

i know this is uninteresting, but seems to go along with my recent inability to distinguish left and right. is diet coke eating holes in my brain?

These people are hardcore:

They do advocate working less and voluntary joblessness though. I could get used to that.

Green Fact: Did you know that if every home in the US replaced just one light bulb, we’d save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars. Maybe you’ve heard this stat before but you’re also saving yourself money b/c they last 10x longer and you save over $30 for each bulb in energy costs. If that didn’t sell you, they’re also supposed to give off warmer tones.

The Bachelor: Officer & A Gentleman (GAG)

Is it an advancement or deterrent to the Asian advancement movement if an Asian “wins” on The Bachelor? It’s really a catch-22 because while I want an Asian girl to win over blonde girls in any media, is the winner of this contest really a winner?

By the way, a quick scan of The Bachelor forums revealed that he has an Asian fetish. Hmmmmmmm.

Gym Hater

Monday, April 23rd, 2007 | rants | 2 Comments

I hate gym memberships. Why pay for something you don’t even really want to do but should? I’ve been contemplating this membership thing since I started my job 3.5 months ago and still haven’t figured it out. I think gym salesmen are dirrty bastards.

So my current situation involves deciding between 24hr fitness or Gold’s gym. The 24hr in downtown is kinda sad, it’s a ghost town. The good thing is the sales guy was surprisingly laid back, a big guy who was dropping weight at the gym and learning Spanish (I noticed a book on his desk). The 24hr in DT isn’t as nice as the Gold’s- no swimming pool & less amenities. On the other hand, Gold’s has a lot of USC folks which ruins the vibe. They do have a pool and provide towels. The Gold’s salesmen are also the epitome of ‘DIRTY’. I’m stuck…I guess I’ll just go on price. Any suggestions? Better yet, anyone got any good deals?

I hate gym memberships.

(Oh yeah, who wants to do the Whole Foods 5K/10K run on May 6th? Two weeks to train.)

Weakness

So I asked my boss when I would have a performance review, and she told me by the end of this month last week.

Today she just straight up told me that I got a raise, a 10% raise. WTF man… obviously, there’s no room for debate there right?? Lame lil ole me, I just SMILED and said THANK YOU.

Now I make a whopping 40K, whoopdedooo. Still an upgrade, but weak!

Another Reason For Me To Hate Sheryl Crow

Monday, April 23rd, 2007 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Something about Sheryl Crow just irritates me. Hearing her songs on the radio kind of makes my skin crawl and maybe it’s just me, but I feel like she always has this self-satisfied look on her face. I know you love her, Barry, but I really can’t stand her.

So of course I was pretty pleased to hear this on the radio this morning. Sheryl Crow Saving the World One Toilet Paper Square at a Time

What the hell Sheryl Crow? Why must you make environmentalists look like idiots? That’s the way to convince all those conservative crazies that the world is in danger. Tell them they should only use one square of toilet paper. Forget about saving fuel and recycling and reducing carbon, the real issue is toilet paper. Does she have some sort of super extra thick shit that makes it physically possible to not get your pee all over yourself with just one square? Is it some rich people’s high-horse toilet paper? Can you imagine using one square of Faithy and Jancy’s favorite 1-ply, Scot tissue? UGH.

I also particularly like her idea of the detachable shirt sleeve to wipe spills and your mouth. Has she ever heard of a handkerchief? They are a little less gross than wiping your nose with your actual sleeve.

oh my god, what an idiot.

New Gelato Places in LA

“Gelato and ice cream: Suddenly they’re crazy good” Mm, yummy. Okay, so I haven’t been able to keep up with all the entries because you guys are too productive… but I thought this article would be appreciated, we must go try them ALL. :D I’ve gotten into gelato ever since having the most delicious well actually it was a sorbet – but blood orange sorbet – up in SF’s Ferry Building earlier this year.

Mmm mmm

the thought of it makes my mouth water, seriously. Links on the left side include a whole listing of places in L.A., including a new one in Altadena, yippee!

As an aside, I finally had Pinkberry with Albert the other day. Yes it was good and I definitely would go back again for that nice tartness, but besides that, I don’t know why crazed people in their black shiny monster hummers and SUVs were circling around the place just for icy frogurt.
